Information on Hydrofluoric acid, toxic effect Symptoms, Diagnosis, Prognosis, Screening and Imaging

Contact with concentrated solutions above 50-70 % cause immediate severe pain. Contact with less concentrated solutions may produce delayed pain and tissue destruction. Burns heal slowly because the fluoride ions penetrate tissues and may cause damage to the underlying bone. This acid is also an inhalation hazard. The IDLH level set by NIOSH is 30 ppm. Chronic skin or respiratory exposure to HF can lead to hypocalcemia and destruction of bone. [LaDou, p. 273-274 & 441-442]
