SODIUM PHOSPHATE/POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, MONOBASIC-DIBASIC PWDR-ORAL (SO-dee-um FOSS-fate/poh-TASS-ee-um FOSS-fate,MON-oh,dye-BAY-sick) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Neutra-Phos USES: This product is a dietary supplement, used if you are on a special diet or if your phosphorus intake is low. HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth, usually four times a day; or as directed by your doctor. This medication must be mixed with water before taking it. Open packet and pour contents into a quarter glass of water (2.5 ounces or 75ml) and swallow. Follow with a full glass of water (8 oz or 240 ml), unless your doctor directs you otherwise. If you are unsure about how to take this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist. SIDE EFFECTS: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, or dizziness, may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects: muscle cramps, unusual weight gain, changes in amount of urine, unusual thirst, mental/mood changes. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: seizures, weakness or heaviness of the legs, unusual tiredness, numbness, tingling or pain of the hands/ feet/lips, irregular heartbeat, trouble breathing, swelling of the feet or lower legs, bone and joint pain. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems (including kidney stones), muscle weakness (hyperkalemia), Addison's disease, liver problems (cirrhosis or hepatic disease), heart disease, decreased amount of fluid in the body (dehydration), swelling (edema), high blood pressure (hypertension) breathing problems (pulmonary edema), pancreatitis, late pregnancy problems (preeclampsia), hormone problems (hypoparathyroidism), bone problems (e.g., rickets, osteomalacia), being on a sodium or potassium-restricted diet. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially of: digoxin, antacids, vitamin products, potassium supplements, certain "water pills" (e.g., potassium-sparing diuretics). Do not start or stop medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical test (serum calcium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, and kidney function) will be performed to monitor your progress. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 36 and 86 degrees F (2 to 30 degrees C) away from moisture.
