NABILONE - ORAL (NAB-ih-lone) USES: This medication is used to relieve severe nausea and vomiting from cancer treatment. HOW TO USE: This drug is taken by mouth, generally 1 to 2 tablets twice a day exactly as directed by your doctor. The first dose should be taken the night before the chemotherapy treatment. The second dose is generally taken one to three hours before chemotherapy. If required, this drug can be continued for 24 hours after the cancer drug treatment. SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, dizziness, mood changes, dry mouth, unsteadiness, blurred vision, loss of appetite or headache might occur. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Unlikely but report: hallucinations. Very unlikely but report: fainting episodes, mental changes, seizures. Psychiatric side effects can persist for two to three days after treatment is discontinued. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies or sensitivity to marijuana or related drugs), history of emotional or psychiatric problems, liver disease, high blood pressure, heart disease. Limit alcohol while using this medication as it may intensify the drowsiness effect of this medication. Caution is advised when performing activities requiring alertness. This medication may cause dizziness when rising from a sitting or lying position. Stand up slowly and use caution on stairs. Caution is advised when this drug is used in the elderly. This drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using this drug if you are pregnant. It is not known if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription or prescription medication you may use, especially of drugs that make you drowsy such as: sleep medications, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), barbiturates (e.g., secobarbital), psychiatric medication, muscle relaxants, anti-seizure drugs, certain antihistamine (e.g., diphenhydramine). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nervousness, unusual tiredness or weakness, severe dizziness or fainting, irregular or unusually slow or rapid heartbeat, confusion, hallucinations, and difficulty breathing. NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
