IMPORTANT NOTE: The following information is intended to supplement, not substitute for, the expertise and judgment of your physician, pharmacist or other healthcare professional. It should not be construed to indicate that use of the drug is safe, appropriate, or effective for you. Consult your healthcare professional before using this drug. LYPRESSIN - SPRAY (lie-PRESS-in) USES: This medication acts to decrease urine output. It controls excessive thirst and urination and prevents dehydration. It is used in the treatment of diabetes insipidus. HOW TO USE: This medication is administered in the nose as a nasal spray. The usual dose is 1 or 2 sprays in each nostril four times daily. You should understand how to regulate your daily dosage according to the degree of excessive urination and thirst. Use this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not use it more frequently without your doctor's approval. Limit drinking of water or other fluids while taking this medication. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause congestion, runny nose, nasal irritation, eye irritation, dizziness, headache or increased bowel movements. These side effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication. If they become bothersome or persist, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, stomach cramps, drowsiness, weight gain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Before you use lypressin, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding or if you have high blood pressure or coronary artery disease (heart disease). Ask your doctor how much, if any, alcohol you may drink. Alcohol interferes with the action of lypressin by increasing urination. If your nose is congested, you may have to alter your dose. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. NOTES: Do not allow anyone else to use this medication.
