LIDOCAINE JELLY - MUCOUS MEMBRANE

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Xylocaine
USES: This medication is an anesthetic which numbs the area it has been applied to. This is used to prevent and control pain and discomfort of certain medical procedures or conditions.
HOW TO USE: This medication is applied to the site or to the medical equipment and administered by a health care professional as part of a medical procedure. It takes only 3 to 5 minutes for the numbing effect of this medication to occur. If used in the mouth or throat, avoid eating or chewing gum for at least 1 hour after use. The risk of choking or biting the tongue or cheek is greater when the mouth, tongue or throat are numb.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally well tolerated. Minor burning or stinging may occur upon application. If this persists, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if the area the medication was applied becomes swollen, red or itchy. Also report if you experience Report if you experience: irregular heartbeat, difficulty breathing, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, confusion, vision twitching or tremors. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: liver disease, heart disease, seizures (epilepsy), allergies (especially to anesthetics). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: You will be monitored closely while using this medication.
MISSED DOSE: This medication is not usually for routine use. As with most medication, if a dose is missed, do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom.
