GOSERELIN - INJECTION (go-SIR-eh-lin) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Zoladex USES: Goserelin is used to treat prostate cancer in men and breast cancer or womb problems (endometriosis) in women. HOW TO USE: This medication is given as an injection by trained medical personnel. The dose is injected just under the skin in the stomach. The 3.6 mg dose is injected every 28 days while the 10.8mg dose is injected every 12 weeks. For best results, adhere to the dosing schedule as closely as possible. Keep all doctor's appointments. Do not stop using this medication without your doctor's permission. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication causes an increase in bone pain and symptoms of prostatic cancer during the first few weeks of treatment. As your body adjusts to the medication, the symptoms will disappear. This medication may cause hot flashes, headache, stomach upset, difficulty urinating, weight gain, swelling and tenderness of breasts, decreased erections, reduced sexual desire. Notify your doctor if these symptoms continue or become bothersome. Notify your doctor if you develop any of the following while taking this medication: rapid heart rate, chest pain, fever, chills, painful urination. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: severe headache, vision changes, severe drowsiness, unusual or one-sided weakness. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: breathing difficulty, skin rash, hives, itching. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history, especially: undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, urination problems, spinal cord problems, any drug allergies. This drug should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. It is not known if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Due to the potential for serious harmful effects, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. NOTES: This medication will be used under close medical supervision. Lab test will be done to monitor your therapy. Certain lab tests may be affected by the use of this drug. MISSED DOSE: Get any missed dose as soon as possible. STORAGE: Store at room temperature below 77 degrees F (below 25 degrees C).
