EXEMESTANE - ORAL (ex-em-ESS-tain) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aromasin USES: This medication is used to treat breast cancer occurring after menopause. It acts by causing a decrease in hormone (estrogen) levels. HOW TO USE: Take exemestane by mouth, generally once daily after a meal or as directed. SIDE EFFECTS: Hot flashes, nausea, fatigue, increased sweating, and increased appetite may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: swelling of the legs or feet, signs of infection such as fever or persistent sore throat, dark urine, stomach pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies. Exemestane is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It is only recommended for use after menopause. Consult your doctor before using this drug. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, if you are exposed to this drug then breast-feeding is not recommended. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially of: estrogens (e.g., ethinyl estradiol). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature; 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
