    Drug Name Dacarbazine intraven.

Dacarbazine intraven. Drug Category DACARBAZINE - INJECTION

    Dacarbazine intraven. Drug Information

IMPORTANT NOTE: The following information is intended to supplement, not substitute for, the expertise and judgment of your physician, pharmacist or other healthcare professional. It should not be construed to indicate that use of the drug is safe, appropriate, or effective for you. Consult your healthcare professional before using this drug. DACARBAZINE - INJECTION (duh-KAR-buh-zeen) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): DTIC-Dome WARNING: This medication can cause severe liver problems (hepatic necrosis), or a decrease in the formation of new blood cells (hemopoietic depression). Notify your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms of an infection (such as persistent sore throat or fever), easy bruising or bleeding, nausea, dark urine, unusual fatigue, yellowing of the eyes or skin, or abdominal/stomach pain. Your doctor will monitor you closely while you are using this medication. USES: Dacarbazine is used to treat cancer. HOW TO USE: This is a potent medication. Use it exactly as prescribed. Dacarbazine is often used in combination with other cancer-fighting drugs. Tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you experience pain, burning or redness at the place where injected. SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, flu-like symptoms (uneasiness, joint or muscle pain), flushing or numbness of face are common. Changes in diet such as eating several small meals or limiting activity may help lessen some of these effects. In some cases, drug therapy may be necessary to prevent or relieve nausea and vomiting. Temporary hair loss is another common side effect. Normal hair growth should return after treatment has ended. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: unusual tiredness or weakness, fever, chills, sore throat, cough, lower back or side pain, painful or difficult urination, unusual bleeding or bruising, black tarry stools, blood in urine or stools, small red spots on the skin, sores in mouth or on lips. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: any infections, blood disorders, liver disease, kidney disease, any allergies you may have. Because this medication can lower your body's ability to fight an infection, avoid touching your eyes or inside your nose without first washing your hands. Use caution with sharp objects like safety razors or nail cutters and avoid activities such as contact sports in order to lower the chance of getting cut, bruised or injured. Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without consent of your doctor, and avoid contact with people who have recently received oral polio vaccine. Dacarbazine should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is usually stopped while using anticancer drugs. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Because this medication can affect the production of sperm in men, a reliable form of birth control is recommended while taking this medication. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of: other anti-cancer medications, vaccines. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. NOTES: Regular doctor visits are important. Do not miss your medical appointments. Frequent blood tests will be done to monitor your progress. MISSED DOSE: It is very important you do not miss any doses. However, if you miss a dose contact your doctor so that your schedule can be adjusted. STORAGE: Store at room temperature and away from light. MEDICAL ALERT: Your condition can cause complications in a medical emergency. For enrollment information call MedicAlert at 1-800-854-1166 (USA), or 1-800-668-1507 (Canada).
